FERRUM, Va. -- Greensboro College saw five players score in double figures tonight in winning the USA South men's basketball opener over Ferrum College 85-72 tonight at Swartz Gymnasium. The loss snapped the Panthers' five-game win streak.
Ferrum trailed by eight early in the game, but rallied to within five points at halftime. The Pride went up by 13 at 60-47 with 13:59 showing on the clock in the second half. Things got worse for Ferrum as Luqman Tijani's layup at 5:30 widened the lead to 77-59, and Greensboro held on for the win.
Nick English had 11 points for Ferrum (7-5, 0-1 USA South), while
Marcus Mayo and
Lamont King had 10 points each. Maleek Myers and
Marshall Hamilton had nine points each in the loss, and
Daryl Hart had eight. Hamilton added six assists and Mayo dished out five.
T.J. Holman led Greensboro (8-3, 1-0 USA South) with 17 points, and Brock Moorman had 14. Chakiris Moss had 12, while Devonta Davis and Andre Porter had 11 each. The Pride out-rebounded Ferrum 50-31.
Ferrum returns to action Saturday, Jan. 7, on the road at Shenandoah University. The USA South game tips off at 4 p.m. in Winchester, Virginia.
