ASHLAND, Va. -- The Ferrum College men's basketball team dropped a 72-60 non-conference game to Randolph-Macon College tonight on the road.
The Panthers led 18-9 after a
Marcus Mayo dunk seven minutes into the game, then held a 22-14 lead on
Nick English's jumper with 7:48 left in the first half. Randolph-Macon closed the half with a 19-10 run to grab a 33-32 lead at the break.
There were six lead changes in the second half. The Panthers took their last lead on an
Alton Whitby three-pointer with 10:04 left to play to put Ferrum on top 52-49. The Yellow Jackets went on a 23-8 run from there to close the game.
Mayo led all scorers with 25 points on 11-20 shooting, including a 3-3 clip from behind the three-point line. Mayo added eight rebounds and five assists in the loss. English had 12 points and five rebounds, and
Lamont King had eight points to go with his game-high 12 rebounds.
Randolph-Macon (20-4) had five players score in double figures, led by Andre Simon's 15 points. Marcus Badger had 12 points, Jamie Robinson had 11, while Calvin Croskey and Lamar Giggetts had 10 each.
Ferrum (13-11) closes out its regular season against North Carolina Wesleyan College Saturday, Feb. 18, on the road. The USA South doubleheader begins at 2 p.m. with the women's game, and will be followed immediately by the men's game.
