FERRUM, Va. -- #5 seed Methodist University led by as many as 16 points in the second half en route to a 92-81 USA South Men's Basketball Tournament quarterfinal win over #4 Ferrum College tonight at Swartz Gymnasium.
Marcus Mayo and
Daryl Hart scored 27 and 22 points, respectively, for the Panthers (13-13) in their final career game.
Nick English added 10 points in his career finale.
Methodist got 17 points and 10 rebounds from Terrell Stallings, and 15 points and 12 rebounds from Bryan Hockaday. The Monarchs outrebounded Ferrum 43-30 and shot almost 53% from the floor to Ferrum's 41%.
The Monarchs (9-18) travel to Newport News Friday to play top seed Christopher Newport in the semifinals. In other quarterfinal games, #3 Greensboro College beat #6 Averett University in overtime, and #7 Shenandoah University upset #2 North Carolina Wesleyan College.
