FERRUM, Va. -- Freshman
J.D. Wallace had a career-high 22 points, including seven three-point baskets, to lift Ferrum College to a 68-65 USA South Athletic Conference men's basketball win over Averett University tonight at Swartz Gymnasium.
Wallace's seven three-pointers was just two shy of the school record of nine, set by All-American Everett Foxx December 4, 1991 against Emory & Henry College.
Jamal Pullen added 14 points and
Lamont King had 10 for the Panthers, which led 37-31 at halftime.
Jordan Mann chipped in eight points, and
Marshall Hamilton and
Charles Warren had six each. King and Pullen each had five assists.
Justin Pierce had 24 points for Averett (5-7, 2-2 USA South), while Carter Jones added 10 points. The Cougars won the battle of the boards, outrebounding Ferrum 45-23. Averett shot just 39% from the floor to Ferrum's 53%.
Ferrum (7-6, 4-1 USA South) will be back in action Saturday, Jan. 12, at USA South newcomer Maryville College. The game is scheduled to tip off at 4:00 p.m. in Maryville, Tennessee.
