LEXINGTON, Va. -- Ferrum College led by as many as 16 points in the first half en route to a 66-54 non-conconference men's basketball win over Washington and Lee University tonight on the road.
Jamal Pullen had a game-high 18 points to lead the Panthers.
The win snapped a seven-game skid for the Panthers. Ferrum jumped out to a 23-12 lead at 10:45 of the first half on
Brian Clarke's layup, then led 36-20 when Alex Ayer drilled a three-pointer with 3:43 left before halftime.
Coach Bill Tharp's team poured it on after halftime, eventually widening the lead to 20 points at 58-38 on back-to-back baskets by
Rashawn Speas and
Marvin Wilson midway through the second half. Speas and
Tyler Mann closed with 10 points each. Ferrum shot 46% from the floor to W&L's 42%, and out-rebounded the Generals 36-26.
Drew Kimberly had 12 points to lead Washington and Lee (4-8), and Andrew Franz had 11 points. The win was Ferrum's second this season over the Generals, including a 77-72 season-opening win Nov. 15 at the Washington and Lee Tip-Off Tournament.
Ferrum (4-8) returns to action Saturday, Jan. 11, at Averett University. The USA South doubleheader is scheduled to start with the women's game at 2:00 p.m., and the men's game to follow at 4:00 p.m..
