FERRUM, Va.--
Jamal Pullen had 14 points and was one of four Ferrum College players in double-digit scoring in a 62-54 non-conference men's basketball win over Washington and Lee University tonight at Swartz Gym. Prior to the game, the Panthers honored Pullen with a game ball for scoring his 1000th career point at the end of last season.
Rashawn Speas had 13 points,
Troy Mann had 12, and
Alek Ayer had 10 for Ferrum. The Generals (2-1) were led by Andrew Franz and Andy Kleinlein, who had 15 and 14 points, respectively. Washington and Lee outrebounded Ferrum 39-30.
Washington and Lee opened the game with a 5-0 run, only to see Ferrum go on a 15-1 spurt to claim a 15-6 lead at the 9:25 mark on
DJ Christian's layup. Ferrum led 29-22 at halftime, then extended its lead in the second half to 15 points when Pullen hit a pull-up jumper with 13:30 left to play to put the Panthers out in front 41-26. The Generals got as close as four points with less than a minute to play, but the Panthers sealed it with a pair of free throws each from Pullen and Ayer.
Ferrum (2-1) returns to action Tuesday, Nov. 25, at home against Lynchburg College. The non-conference game tips off at 4 p.m. at Swartz Gym.
