FERRUM, Va. --
DJ Christian's tip-in off a missed free throw with 4.2 seconds remaining was the difference as Ferrum College came from behind to post a 62-61 USA South win over Methodist University this afternoon at Swartz Gym.
Ferrum trailed 59-52 with 1:43 left in the game, but cut the lead to four when
Alek Ayer made one of two free throws with 1:02 showing on the clock. The Panthers got a defensive stop and
Rashawn Speas made a jumper with 52 seconds left to cut the lead to 61-59.
D'Andre Mullen made a steal at the other end of the floor with 19 seconds left, coming up with the ball amidst a scramble and immediately calling a timeout. Speas was fouled driving to the basket with just under five seconds left in regulation. Speas made the first free throw but when he missed the second, Christian was there to tip it in for the win.
Christian closed with nine points and six rebounds.
Jamal Pullen had 15 points, Speas had 14 points and Ayer had 12 points. Blake Davis had 12 points, TJ Gill had 11 points and Mike Major had 10 points for the Monarchs (12-13, 7-7 USA South).
