FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Mike Major had a game-high 28 points as Methodist University nipped Ferrum College 72-67 in USA South Athletic Conference men's basketball play this afternoon at the Riddle Center.
Ferrum led 36-33 at the break but Methodist surged out in front with an 18-10 run to open the second half and take a 51-46 lead. Ferrum would go back up by three at 63-60 with just over six minutes left to play on a
Jamal Pullen jumper.
The lead see-sawed from there with Ferrum taking its final lead at 67-66 with 2:22 left on a Pullen jumper, before Methodist closed out the game with a 6-0 run. The Monarchs (10-11, 5-5 USA South) got 12 points from Tabias Hilliard and 11 points from Brandon Monk.
Marcus Huff had 14 points for the Panthers, while
Rashawn Speas had 12 points.
Ferrum (7-14, 2-8 USA South) returns to action Wednesday, Feb. 11 at North Carolina Wesleyan College. The USA South gama is scheduled to get underway at 7:30 p.m. in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
