FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College's men's basketball team will open the 2016-17 season tonight at home against Washington and Lee University. The non-conference game is scheduled to tip off at 7:00 p.m. at Swartz Gym.
Ferrum is coming off a 13-13 season from a year ago. The Panthers lost six of the top seven scorers from last season, with
Josh Grimard the top returning player. Grimard was Ferrum's #3 scorer in 2015-16, averaging .6 points per game on 90-192 shooting (.469) from the floor. Grimard also averaged 4.2 rebounds per game and shot 41% from behind the three point line.
Washington and Lee is coming of a 10-16 record from a year ago. The Generals beat Ferrum 51-48 January 18 in Lexington, Virginia. Andy Klienlein and Davis Kearns were W&L's #2 and #3 scorers last season, averaging 14.0 and 10.8 points per game, respectively. Both also averaged 3.7 rebounds per game.
The game will be the 12th meeting between the two schools, with Ferrum holding a slight 6-5 series lead. W&L's most recent win was last season, while the Panthers' last win came during the 2014-15 season.
