Jones Ranks #1 in 100m for DIII

LYNCHBURG, Virginia -- The Ferrum College men's and women's outdoor track & field teams competed at the Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational at the University of Lynchburg on Friday and Saturday. Ferrum freshman Jahmal Jones became the top ranked sprinter in the nation for the 100 meter sprint. Jones turned in a time of 10.27 to move up in the rankings.

Men's Highlights:

  • Jahmal Jones continued his dominant season, securing 1st place in the Men's 100m with a time of 10.27 seconds, ranking DIII #1 for the 2025 season. Jones also placed 8th in the Men's 200m with a time of 21.76 seconds, showcasing his speed and versatility.
  • Jordan Smith posted a PR in the Men's 200m, finishing with a time of 22.20 seconds, earning the DIII #38 ranking for the season. Na-Shawn Greene and Deontae Lawson also performed strongly, with times of 22.59 and 22.60, respectively.
  • In the Men's Long Jump, Na-Shawn Greene leaped 6.67m (21-10.75), finishing in 4th place and earning DIII #28 for the season.
  • Kyle Holcomb threw a PR in the Men's Shot Put, posting 11.72m (38-05.50) to finish 8th in the event. Holcomb also excelled in the Men's Hammer Throw, placing 7th with a PR throw of 40.05m (131-04).
  • In the Men's Javelin Throw, DaMauri McPherson achieved a throw of 43.70m (143-04), finishing 9th, while Kyle Holcomb posted a throw of 29.23m (95-10).
  • The Men's 4x100m Relay team, consisting of DaMauri McPherson, Deontae Lawson, Jordan Smith, and Jahmal Jones, ran an impressive 41.61 seconds, securing 3rd place overall and the DIII #8 ranking for the 2025 season.
  • Darryl Taylor posted a notable 11.21m (36-09.50) in the Men's Triple Jump, while Max Madsen jumped 6.65m (21-10.00) in the Men's Long Jump, ranking DIII #29 for the season.
Women's Highlights:
  • Airiana Beverley recorded a solid 29.06 seconds in the Women's 200m, while Emma Kelley earned a season best of 29.76 seconds.
  • In the Women's 400m, Airiana Beverley ran 1:07.80, finishing in 17th place, and Emma Kelley crossed the line at 1:11.98.
  • Lilian Bigger, competing in her first collegiate meet, threw 7.58m (24-10.50) in the Women's Shot Put, showcasing her potential.
  • Zoie Wagner ran 32.95 seconds in the Women's 200m.
  • In the Women's Long Jump, Airiana Beverley jumped 4.39m (14-05.00), with Emma Kelley following up with a 4.17m (13-08.25) leap.
Additional Notable Performances:
  • Josh Mills ran a PR in the Men's 1500m, finishing in 27th place with a time of 4:25.16. Greyson Crouch also achieved a PR, posting a time of 4:49.27 in the same event, securing 44th place.
  • Lilian Bigger had a solid showing in the Women's Javelin Throw, recording a mark of 24.74m (81-02).
Relay Highlights:
  • Men's 4x100m Relay: McPherson, Lawson, Smith, and Jones, earned third place with an impressive time of 41.61 seconds. The performance also marked a new DIII #8 SB, showcasing the team's collective strength.
